"Pardon?" she asked, her eyes glancing to the duck again, as if it might be able to clarify.

But then something in her expression seems to draw him to a different conclusion. He tilts his head, considering her for a moment.
"Or are you new here and have no idea what I'm talking about? You know I don't think I've seen you around; I would have remembered a pretty lady like yourself."
no subject
"Yeah, I guess you can say I'm new." She shot another look at the duck, her mind still reeling over his initial comment. "Is having friends that are ducks a normal thing around here?" Granted, Kate was the one talking to it, but she couldn't have foreseen her off-handed comment causing that kind of confusion.

No, no he wasn't.He holds his hand out in greeting, smiling."In that case, welcome to Paradisa. I'm Spartan Paul DeMarco but you can just call me Paul.

"Detective Kate Beckett." Since they seemed to be going with titles. "What the hell is Paradisa?"
no subject
"Paradisa is that thing there." He motions to the nearby castle. "Drags us in from our own worlds, like some weird slipspace anomaly or something. Then sometimes it turns us into ducks, or cats, or lamps. That's the tame part."
no subject
Kate isn't really sure what to think. At least talking to a duck doesn't make her feel as nuts as she did before; this guy is obviously the one off the deep end. She takes a casual step back, crossing her arms and eying him warily.
"How does it take us from our, uh, 'worlds,' exactly?"
no subject
He gets it, it's weird, but he's pretty confident she'll eventually realize it's the situation that's fucked up, not him. "Haven't quite figured that part out yet. Maybe you and your detective skills can help." He gives her a wink.
no subject
"Yeah, well, maybe they will." She grits her teeth and glances back at the pond. "Would be great if I had a little information about where to start."
